What’s on Third?” will be held on April 20th, 2013 from 11:00am to 3:00 pm. This event is brought to you by Lehigh University and Embassy Bank. Also sponsoring the event are The Morning Call, WDIY, Working Dog Press and Homebase Skateshop.
“Spring on Fourth! What’s on Third?” was founded 18 years ago to celebrate Bethlehem’s Southside and has stayed a free, public event. The Chili Cook Off portion of the event takes place along Third, Fourth and New streets. Highlighting the celebration is the popular chili contest, live entertainment by a variety of performers and fun family activities through the entire SouthSide. This year, the “Cops n Kids” display will take place on the Loopers lot with an accompanying science fair in the Northampton Community College lot. The Cops n Kids event will also kick the day off with a parade beginning on the Greenway, which will be filled to the brim with other groups, as well.
The Greenway will feature an Earth Day celebration with the Sierra Club, a live outdoor performance by Touchstone Theatre on the amphitheater and a Dedication to the Harmony Pavilion all between the hours of 11am and 6pm! There will also be a Health Expo at the ArtsQuest Center. In addition, many of the South Side merchants will feature sales and special discounts throughout the afternoon–so you can really get a taste of the whole Southside experience!
This year’s “Spring on Fourth! What’s on Third?” contest features an anticipated 30+ chili entries ranging from mild, spicy, five-alarm chili to vegetarian versions of the dish. Chili Tasting Passports will be for sale ONLINE ONLY and will sell out, so buy in advance! The tickets will be on sale beginning on April 1st, 2013.
Tastings will be from 12:00-2:00pm. There are teams of judges that are going to taste ALL of the chili. But we want your opinion, too. Rank your top three chili choices on the back of your Passport to vote for the winner of the “People’s Choice” and submit it to locations at 3rd and New St. and Campus Square. They will be collected by 3PM.
Look forward to developing competitions and additions to the entertainment list, as well!
